Taking your first wedding coverage can be a daunting task. I can also be a real challenge as you have not yet found out the best items to bring with you on the big day. While you may already have a good idea of the basics, it is still best to make a list of the things to be included in your kit. Of course, you cannot fit everything in your bag (or car) when on an out of town reception, so bring only the most important.
Camera body
A huge challenge among amateur photographers is the type of camera to use for a wedding photography stint. While you may think at first that the latest and high end cameras are the best, it’s not a good idea to invest too much on an expensive camera. A basic DSLR camera with great specifications will do the trick. As most professional photographers will tell you, the type of camera to use on taking wedding photos will depend on the photographer himself or herself. Take the time to examine which cameras you can work with best. Don’t splurge your first budget on very expensive cameras that do not feel good to you.
Lenses
You cannot go without at least a couple of lenses to a wedding. Most wedding parties will not like the photographer hovering too close to the couple during the ceremony or during memorable moments when they, too, would want a good view. With the right combination of zoom lenses, you can take beautiful shots of the couple exchanging vows and rings from a good vantage point somewhere at the back of the aisle. Some lenses, such as the wide-angle zoom lenses and wide-to-telephoto zoom lenses, are indispensable when taking photographs in confined spaces.
Lighting Equipment
Good lighting is very important in taking wedding photographs. The bridegroom will expect you to take good photographs even with limited lighting. Some reception halls and churches will prohibit flashes and of course, they are not the most romantic, so bring along a good lighting source to take good photos.
Apart from those equipment mentioned above, there are also accessories that are as important to bring along to a wedding.
· Tripod or Monopod
· Wireless trigger
· Bag
· Reflector
· Memory Cards
· Batteries
Other Must-haves
· Gaffer’s tape
· Business cards
· Pens
· Battery chargers
A wedding photographer must always have at least a majority of the things mentioned in this article. Over time, you will find out things that you may also need aside from such things listed above. Always prepare a checklist of things to bring with you prior to any wedding coverage to avoid problems and hassles during the most crucial parts of the wedding. You absolutely cannot tell the bride that you have run out of battery or memory space when you’re still halfway through the event. Therefore, a photographer’s toolkit must include everything needed and more.
